Before any Bill Graham or Chet Helms concert posters were produced, before any Acid Tests or Trips Festivals took place, the brand new Family Dog four-person collective put on a dance-concert in San Francisco that was simply the beginning of a pop-culture nuclear explosion that would resonate for generations to come. This event, and this poster, have “firsts” written all over them. The show was dubbed “A Tribute to Dr. Strange” after a comic-book character, although this large format poster – designed by Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane, who appeared – does not mention that cryptic moniker. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
