These are the two posters that launched the Bill Graham Fillmore and Family Dog Avalon series of concert posters that defined an era in late-60s San Francisco. FD-1, the first Family Dog concert poster, features the Jefferson Airplane with Big Brother and the Holding Company (before Janis Joplin joined the group), and is nicknamed “Tribal Stomp.” BG-1, the first poster in Bill Graham’s famed “numbered series” of concert posters, also features the Jefferson Airplane in a much simpler and more straightforward design. Both events took place in February 1966 and the rock-music world would never look back. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
