Andy Warhol’s Plastic Inevitable Show Poster 1966 Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground and Nico were the musical guests at this series of shows at The Trip nightclub on Sunset Strip in 1966, but it was their manager, Andy Warhol, who was the headliner, with his outrageous, multi-media Exploding Plastic Inevitable Show. Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein’s great Newsweek magazine cover is the centerpiece of this outrageously cool cardboard window card that advertised two weeks’ worth of shows in the spring of ’66, which were cut short by authorities for causing too much trouble. Also shown is a scarce & beautiful VU concert poster from 1969 in St. Louis. Both enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). Barbra Streisand Concert Poster 1960s & Signed Artist’s Sketch

Barbra Streisand was just 24 years old and pregnant with her only child when she played at the prestigious Festival Field in Newport, Rhode Island on July 30, 1966. Here we show an original concert poster, made before the show to sell tickets; the common reproduced concert poster, with an explanation of how to tell the difference; and a unique, original oil painting of Barbra done that same month about which very little is known. Perhaps it was an early attempt at a concert poster, or just done for fun; either way, it was autographed nicely by Babs at the time. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).

Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke Window Card 1950s R&B Concert Poster Pt. 2

PART TWO: Vintage R&B concert posters don’t come much more electrifying than this: large, gorgeous, colorful, early, several rock ‘n roll hall-of-famers, lots of hit song titles, Motown roots, great condition… this thing has it all.  Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson are the stars, and to find them together on a ’50s concert poster is amazing. Toss in R&R HOF’ers Gladys Knight & The Pips (don’t blink or you’ll miss them) and Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, and feature Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr.’s very first single release, and you have a poster dripping with history as well as colors. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If old R&B window cards like this tantalize you, be sure to view more located on this page right here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Sixties Bob Dylan Poster of Psychedelic Foil by Martin Sharp

Here we have two commercially sold head-shop posters from the late 1960s that are extremely popular among collectors, featuring Bob Dylan and Donovan. The posters were not printed on cardboard or conventional paper, but rather on a highly reflective, metallic, foil-like material which gives them their uniqueness. The posters were created by Martin Sharp, Australia’s foremost pop-culture artist in the late sixties who was living in London at the time. (He also designed two album covers for Cream.) Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
