1950s Concert Posters – Coasters, Fats Domino, Ritchie Valens

Here’s a crop of 5 wonderful original cardboard boxing-style concert posters from the 1950s, all featuring members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Coasters, Fats Domino, Ritchie Valens and Jackie Wilson are the most prominent artists on these concert posters, all of which were once posted for no other reason than to sell tickets. All are very attractive in their own right, including photographs of the featured artists, and are very collectible. Trips Festival Poster July 29-30-31, 1966 PNE Garden Auditorium

A small poster (or large handbill) from the summer of 1966 advertising the traveling Trips Festival multi-media event, which featured the music of both the Grateful Dead and Big Brother & the Holding Company, whom Janis Joplin had just joined. Billed as “Vancouver’s First Festival of Sound & Light,” the freewheeling affair included light shows, movies, dancing, jazz music, liquid projections, magic mirrors… all things trippy and psychedelic during this pivotal year in pop culture. Bob Dylan Window Cards 1964 & 1965 Berkeley, San Francisco

Bob Dylan had a certain affinity for the San Francisco Bay Area during his mid-60s touring prime, much more so than, say, Los Angeles. Here we have a look at three concert window cards, modest in design, used to sell tickets to two shows in 1964 and one in ’65. Mary Ann Pollar was the promoter, Berkeley and S.F. were the locales, and the music performed was magic. Can’t say these posters are magic, necessarily, being in B&W and at the smaller 11×17-inch size, but they represent a stellar time in Bob Dylan’s career. If you’re into his Bobness, you can view other vintage sixties Dylan concert posters I display on this page right here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/bobdylan.htm

Led Zeppelin Concert Poster – Mighty Monday Toronto Rockpile

A dynamic summer 1969 Led Zeppelin concert poster from the Rockpile concert hall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The night was billed “Mighty Monday” by the promoters, with shows at 8:00 and 11:00 PM. “The Zeppelin Is The Only Way To Fly — Higher,” proclaims the poster across the top, in a real sign of the times. Jefferson Airplane Concert Poster – Grateful Dead Charity BG-222

One of the most popular higher-number Bill Graham concert posters of all time is BG-222, for this 1970 benefit concert held at Winterland in San Francisco to raise funds for the Grateful Dead’s recent drug bust in New Orleans. Headliners Jefferson Airplane were joined by Quicksilver Messenger Service, Santana, It’s a Beautiful Day and Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks. Also shown is the monochrome version, which was printed in smaller numbers.
