Little Richard Window Cards 1950s R&B Concert Posters Part I

Little Richard is one of the undisputed founding fathers of rock ’n’ roll, and here we have two gorgeous 1950s concert posters that feature him prominently. Both are from the Southern “chitlin circuit” tour stop of Chattanooga, TN. The first one, in this video, dates from 1956, the year that Mr. Penniman (his real name) burst on the scene. Richard shares the bill with several other fellow rock ’n’ roll hall-of-famers, including Big Joe Turner, Etta James and the Moonglows. Be sure to check out Part Two of this video to see the ’57 poster as well.

CORRECTION: In this video, I inadvertently stated that Big Jay McNeely is no longer alive. I’m thrilled to report that as of this video’s initial posting in July of 2012, Big Jay was still alive and doing well. My apologies.

Bob Dylan Concert Flyer 1963 Town Hall New York – His First Major Concert!

One month before “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan” was released, Dylan performed the first major concert of his career. The date was April 12, 1963 and the location was New York City’s historic Town Hall.  It didn’t sell out, but the 900 or so who did show up garnered bragging rights for the rest of their lives. Here we have the beautiful handbill that was used to sell tickets for the show, and the simple but elegant four-page concert program as well.  Both are enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). And if you have a stolen moment, go catch some other vintage sixties Dylan concert posters I show on this page here of my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/bobdylan.htm

Cream Concert Posters 1968 Window Cards w/ Eric Clapton

1968 was the year that Cream really barnstormed America on tour, and every single concert poster used was a unique creation of each individual promoter. There were no city-to-city “tour blanks” used, where only the city and date were changed, like Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones had used earlier. Thus, some really wild, individual Cream concert posters exist from that year… some aesthetically pleasing, and some not so much. Here are three of the better ones, from Sacramento, Detroit and Baltimore. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). Beatles Quarry Men Visiting Card 1957 Lennon-McCartney Debut!

When John Lennon and Paul McCartney got up on stage together for the very first time, as the Quarry Men in October 1957, it’s highly unlikely that any tickets had been printed, programs run off or posters designed. It was a simple, small-town club date. So this Quarry Men business card, with the club promoter’s impressions of the young skiffle group scribbled in pencil, is most likely the only extant souvenir from the night of the Beatles’ birth as a stage act. A highly historical collector’s item that has spent extensive time in museums. Shown off enthusiastically by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
