Monterey Pop Festival Window Card on Silver Foil 1967

A lot of people consider the Monterey Pop Festival to be the greatest weekend in the history of rock, even topping Woodstock two years later. Thus the original concert posters are coveted collector’s items, although it’s a shame that – unlike Woodstock – the Monterey posters don’t list the great musicians who played that weekend. But the smaller foil poster, which was sold at the show as a souvenir, and the larger foil poster, used just for advertising, are great-looking timepieces that very much evoke the feeling of the Summer of Love. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).

Ike & Tina Turner Concert Posters 1960s Soul Music Revue Display

In the 1960s, the Ike & Tina Turner Revue was probably the most combustible R&B act to grace a concert stage, with the possible exception of James Brown. That’s why The Rolling Stones picked them as the opening slot on their landmark 1969 tour of America. Here we have two earlier posters, from 1962 and 1966, both hailing from Wichita, Kansas. Both have that trademark splashy red & yellow design featured on most Ike & Tina concert posters of the day, which makes for amazing eye appeal. Both are enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If old R&B window cards like this make you a happy camper, be sure to view more located on this page here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars Concert Poster 1960s Window Card

Dick Clark was known for a lot of things in music history, including the creation of American Bandstand for television. It was that TV fame which lead him to spearhead some traveling pop-music revues in the early 1960s, dubbed Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars. You may be cruel and call many of them one-hit wonders on the Fall 1963 trek represented on this poster, but some great pre-Beatles pop music was created by The Ronettes, Little Eva, Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland and The Dovells, among many others. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). And if you dig these sixties rock ’n roll traveling-package tours as much as I do, go see some of the cool posters shown on this page here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/multi-act_1960s.htm

Jimi Hendrix Concert Poster 1960s Columbus Ohio & 2 Bootlegs

Think you can tell an original 1960s concert poster from a counterfeit that was printed much later? Try this test with the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s March 3, 1968 concert poster from Columbus, OH. Reprints are readily available on eBay, but are not always identified as such. Here we display two latter-day reprints and then the original pre-concert printing of a wonderfully designed Hendrix concert poster, and side-by-side, you’ll see the dramatic differences. Enthusiastically conducted by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). For more photos and descriptions of commonly reproduced concert posters by superstars like Elvis and the Beatles, see this page located right here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/bootleggallery1.htm

Little Richard Window Cards 1950s R&B Concert Posters Part II

This is Part Two of my two-part video on Little Richard 1950s original rock ’n’ roll concert posters. The one in this video dates from 1957, the biggest year of Richard’s career on the Billboard charts. On this poster, he shares the bill with legends like Bobby “Blue” Bland, the 5 Royales, Wynonie Harris, Jimmy Reed and others. (Sorry I skipped over Big Maybelle, and sorry I showed Tab Smith’s picture when I thought I was showing Jimmy Reed’s!) Be sure to see Part One, by the way, for an even better poster. All this is enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If you think these 1950s rock ’n roll concert posters are the bomb, be sure to see more of them displayed right here on this page of my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/multi-act_1950s.htm
