Sam Cooke Window Cards – Vintage Soul Music Concert Posters

Here we have three original cardboard boxing-style concert posters advertising shows by the King of Soul himself, Sam Cooke, over a six-year span. The first one is from Hawaii in 1959, with Little Anthony & The Imperials as the second-billed act. Then we have a bright pink poster from Virginia in 1963, listing several of Sam’s hit records, including “Twisting the Night Away.” And finally there’s a 1964 window card advertising Sam and co-headliner Bobby “Blue” Bland in concert out in California, just 11 months before Sam’s life would meet its tragic end. All three are enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If old R&B broadsides like this make you swoon, be sure to view more located on this page sitting right here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Chuck Berry Concert Poster 1950s Big Rock & Roll Show Window Card

One of the earliest and greatest rock n’ roll concert posters ever made , this 1955 gem fell at the very beginning of Chuck Berry’s long and illustrious career. “Maybellene” had been out for only a few months when Berry toured the south on a package tour which mostly featured R&B and doo-wop. The only poster we’ve ever seen that referred to Berry’s performing act as a “Trio.” And did he write “Little Queenie” after playing with Queenie Owens, pictured at the bottom of this poster? Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). And if old R&B concert posters like this scintillate you, head on over to this page here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Roy Orbison, Dion, Bo Diddley Concert Posters Vintage 50s-60s

Roy Orbison, Dion and the Belmonts, Bo Diddley, Larry Williams and LaVern Baker are among the greats featured on these three 50-year-old cardboard concert posters. A ton of great music is represented here; every musician pictured on the posters had at least one Top 10 smash, and a total of thirty-one Top 10 hits were charted by the seven artists pictured. Two of these posters are from Hawaii, and one is from the very unusual concert locale of Suisun (City), CA. Look at Roy Orbison without his trademark glasses! Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).

Bob Dylan Window Cards 1960s Newport Folk Festival Posters

Bob Dylan’s star seldom shone brighter than at the three consecutive Newport Folk Festivals from 1963-65. Here we take a look at the original cardboard advertising posters for the latter two, the 1964 and 1965 Newport Folk Fests. Dylan’s name is the same size as everyone else’s, but he would soon, of course, leave everyone else in the dust. He treated the ’64 audience to almost all new songs, and he presented the ’65 crowd with a totally new sound… plugging in and going electric for the very first time. There’s no shortage of exciting history here to be enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). And if you have a moment, be sure to view other vintage sixties Dylan concert posters I display on this page here on my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/bobdylan.htm

1950s Jazz Concert Poster – Louis Armstrong & Benny Goodman

A beautifully designed jazz concert poster from 1953 featuring co-headliners Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman. Great artistic sketches of the two legends, bright red, yellow & blue colors, and lots of named support musicians (Gene Krupa, anyone?) make this a stellar-looking boxing-style window card that served Buffalo and Rochester well, plus possibly other cities on the duo’s ill-fated tour. And then we treat you to a 1959 Dizzy Gillespie concert poster from Des Moines, IA. Both enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
