Jackie Brenston 1950s R&B Concert Poster “Rocket 88” Originator

“Rocket 88” with Ike Turner’s band and Jackie Brenston on sax and lead vocals was one of the earliest rock ‘n roll hits in 1951, and here’s a Brenston concert poster from the following year when he was very much riding its crest. The location was Phenix City, AL, known as “Sin City” at the time for its fast-paced and shady night life. Brenston was a Chess Records recording artist and tickets could be obtained at Shorty’s Barber Shop and Dr. Jive’s Record Shop! Jefferson Airplane Concert Poster w/ Quicksilver at The Fillmore

An early, classic Bill Graham psychedelic concert poster from the spring of 1966, just when things were starting to get going. Poster artist Wes Wilson designed this seminal Fillmore Auditorium concert poster using entirely lettering, and its simplicity appeals to many fans of the genre. The Jefferson Airplane take Friday night and Quicksilver Messenger Service headlines Saturday night in an interesting, quaint split billing. Grateful Dead Concert Poster w/ Oxford Circle at Avalon Ballroom

The term “iconic image” is thrown around too often, but that sobriquet was practically invented for this ultra-famous Grateful Dead concert poster from 1966. Nicknamed “skull & roses” or “skeleton & roses,” this masterwork was created by poster artists Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley. Can you imagine having attended the Avalon Ballroom one of these nights and being able to tell your friends about it to this day! Wow, finding any one original Bob Dylan concert poster from the 1960s is hard enough, but here are three different ones from ’64, before Dylan turned electric the following year. Each has its own story, as they originate from Northern California, Southern California and Hawaii. Great fun to go over the crazy wording often used on these throw-away window cards that collectors now covet. Cream Concert Poster 1968 w/ Canned Heat at S.F.V.S.C. in L.A.

An exceptional vintage Cream and Canned Heat concert poster from a college in Los Angeles circa 1968. Cream was touring off their Disraeli Gears album and “Sunshine of Your Love” hit single when poster artist John Van Hamersveld drew up this charismatic poster based on his artistic renderings of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.
