The Doors Poster 1967 KACY and Jim Salzer Present in Santa Barbara

A fun, authentic Doors concert poster from August 5, 1967 when they played at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara, California.

This old Doors event broadside is enthusiastically discussed by long-time fan Pete Howard, who bought their first LP in 1967. That’s me, and I can be talked with at pete@postercentral.com or by calling (805) 540-0020. And please remember that I pay TOP DOLLAR IN THE HOBBY, period, for vintage Doors concert memorabilia like this.

Hi Pete– Greetings from Santa Margarita. I happened to stumble across one of your poster blog videos today. I was checking out the video for the Doors show at the Earl Warren Showgrounds back on August 5, 1967. I grew up next door to the artist for this poster-Richard Tolmach. He was actually in high school when he made this poster. I think he earned $20.00 and two concert tickets for his efforts. Salzer has made a killing selling reprints of this poster and Richard hasn’t seen a penny since…….. On a different note, you mentioned that Bill Payne played for the opening act Captain Speed. I also believe that Buffalo Bruce Barlow (of Commander Cody’s Lost Planet Airmen) played for Captain Speed too. This band eventually morphed into the band Turquoise, who also opened many Jim Salzer shows……… Oh, one more thing….. Richard Tolmach was also hired by the manager of Love (still when he was in high school) to do the album cover artwork for the album that was to become Forever Changes. The cover artwork was FINISHED and ready to go (I saw it), but Love fired their manager and Richard’s artwork fell by the wayside….. That’s it…. Take care and thank you for taking the time to read this……. Scott Sterling

    • Great to hear from you Scott, and sorry it took me so long to reply! Really enjoyed hearing your stories and history. Thanks for finding & watching my vids, and hello to A-Town from A-Beach!
      Have a great summer,
      Pete
