Grateful Dead Concert Poster w/ Quicksilver Messenger Service

Never mind its black & white coloring, this Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service concert poster is one of the most enduring and popular in the Dead’s entire canon. This poster marks the first time that a skull or skeleton was used in the advertising of a Dead concert, although this particular image — by Mexican artist Posada, and selected by Family Dog promoter Chet Helms — was never used again. Wes Wilson did the rest of the artwork, leaving a B&W final poster that just begged for the lettering to be colored in, so many fans did just that back in the Sixties. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). Ray Charles Concert Posters (2) Original Window Placards

“Georgia On My Mind” from 1960 is generally regarded as Ray Charles’ signature song, so that year was very special for “The Genius.” And here we have two vintage concert posters from 1960 representing Ray, both from San Diego, California. One is colorful and has many other acts on it, and the other is plainer but features only the man himself. Both window cards were manufactured by The Colby Poster Printing Company in Los Angeles, CA, and are enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If you’re into vintage rhythm & blues concert posters like this, be sure to go see more of them displayed on this page of my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Child & Steel Mill Concert Posters 1969 Bruce Springsteen Young!

Bruce Springsteen was in about 5 bands before he settled on just using his own name in the early ’70s, and two of them are represented here in the form of original concert posters advertising shows by Child (summer 1969) and Steel Mill (fall 1969) in Richmond, VA. Hard to believe that’s The Boss on both of these posters, but it is, wild hair and all. Also shown is a Steel Mill promo poster from the same year, as the band tried to inform the public of its name change. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). You can see one of these again along with a few other great, vintage sixties concert posters on this very page of my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/rock.htm

Janis Joplin Grateful Dead Concert Poster 1966 Fillmore Benefit

A highly unusual 1966 Bill Graham benefit concert poster at the Fillmore Auditorium featuring Janis Joplin fronting Big Brother & the Holding Company, the Quicksilver Messenger Service, soon-to-be huge hit-makers The Grass Roots, and even famed poster artist Rick Griffin performing as part of The Jook Savages. Alas, even though they’re on the poster, the Grateful Dead did not appear. It’s almost surreal that this 10-hour multi-layered show was a benefit for a children’s day camp! Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). If you covet 60s Fillmore era concert posters like this, be sure to view more of them on this particular page of my web site: http://www.postercentral.com/psychedelic.htm

Unused Beatles Concert Tickets 1962-1966 (15 Different)

Ticket stubs are fun to collect and a whole legion of music collectors have scrapbooks full of them. But a concert ticket that was never used, completely un-torn and intact, is a whole ‘nother thing. Throw in the world’s biggest act ever, The Beatles, and you have an exciting collectible in the form of unused original Beatles concert tickets. Here you’ll see 15 of them shown off enthusiastically by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). But I goofed at the very end: I meant to say “$5,000 a minute, $20 a minute” but I accidentally said “an hour.” Oops! (blush)
