Jimi Hendrix Concert Poster 1968 Merriweather Post Pavalion

My personal favorite Jimi Hendrix Experience concert poster ever made… a one-off poster from the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on August 16, 1968. This jumbo Hendrix window card is half-psychedelic, half-boxing style in design, and features Day-Glo colors of dark red and fiery orange. Poster artist D.W. Beeghly really hit his stride with this breathtaking design, and as usual back then, Durwood Settles promoted the show. Muddy Waters Window Card 1950s w/ Ray Charles & Ruth Brown

Talk about a stellar line-up… this 1954 gem features an astonishing array of R&B talent, with four of the five acts now members of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Most poster collectors consider this a “50s Muddy Waters poster” because he’s much harder to find on a vintage advertising window card than the other four here. But Ruth Brown was simply on fire at this point in her career; Charles Brown was an established R&B legend; poor Ray Charles gets a strip less than 2 inches wide, but we all know his stature; and the two Lowell Fulson songs on here were his two biggest records ever. Whew! Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). And if old R&B concert posters like this make your day, scurry over to this page of my web site which you’re already on: http://www.postercentral.com/rhythmnblues.htm

Family Dog Presents Rock n Roll Dance & Concert Poster 1965 Charlatans

Before any Bill Graham or Chet Helms concert posters were produced, before any Acid Tests or Trips Festivals took place, the brand new Family Dog four-person collective put on a dance-concert in San Francisco that was simply the beginning of a pop-culture nuclear explosion that would resonate for generations to come. This event, and this poster, have “firsts” written all over them. The show was dubbed “A Tribute to Dr. Strange” after a comic-book character, although this large format poster – designed by Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane, who appeared – does not mention that cryptic moniker. 1930s Big Band Jazz Concert Posters – Cab Calloway, Earl Hines

Here were take a look at three late-1930s cardboard advertising window cards made to sell tickets for Cab Calloway, Earl “Fatha” Hines and Jimmie Lunceford in concert, along with their respective big bands. Now approaching 75 years old, these authentic concert posters from the start of World War II have aged beautifully and evoke an era when swing music and big bands ruled the land. Interestingly, African-American musicians on these old posters are much more collectible than white musicians, and here we have three great examples. Beatles Concert Poster 1966 Shea Stadium – Real, Not a Fake

The Beatles played New York’s Shea Stadium on two occasions… in 1965, when they famously could have sold out the 55,000-seat ballpark 10 times over, and again in 1966, when in fact they didn’t even sell it out once. Therefore, unlike the previous year, concert posters were created for the ’66 show to help market the event and sell tickets. Both smaller cardboard and larger paper versions were created, and here we show a nice example of the latter. (Correction: the cardboard originals are smaller than the dimensions I mistakenly gave.) Hard to believe they once had to implore the general public that “Good seats are now available,” but here you can see it in black & white (& yellow).
