Grateful Dead Window Card 1967 New York City (Cafe Au Go Go)

The first time the Dead ever played in New York City was for this June 1967 residency at the Café Au Go Go in Greenwich Village. The was the same dank, cramped nightclub where Lenny Bruce got busted for obscenity, and the Dead hated it, but they cut their teeth and got their exposure. Van Morrison Concert Poster 1969 Astral Weeks Tour

This is a rarity: a sixties Van Morrison concert poster, even though he had released the Top 10 hit “Brown Eyed Girl” and a masterpiece of an album, “Astral Weeks.” Famed poster artist Rick Griffin had great fun with this poster, which is nicknamed “junkyard” because of its crazy background; that big green word in the middle isn’t really a word at all, it’s just a design! Bob Dylan Handbill 1966 Acoustic & Electric Tour w/Hawks

A great little advertising concert handbill from Bob Dylan’s incendiary 1965-66 world tour with The Hawks from Norfolk, Virginia on February 12, 1966. The promoters also made larger cardboard concert posters of this exact image, but this is the smaller paper flyer. Jimi Hendrix Experience Concert Poster – Davenport, Iowa 1968

A very unique, one-off, small-town concert poster for The Jimi Hendrix Experience on their 1968 U.S. tour. This small-ish poster from Davenport, Iowa was designed by a local college student at the time, Leslie Bell. It has many subtle and hidden little drawings and figures built into the artwork, including the current president of the United States, LBJ! Plus the telltale words, “The death of convention.” Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com). John Sinclair Freedom Rally Poster 1971 John & Yoko

A 1971 Ann Arbor, Michigan concert poster featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono, that being a terrifically rare billing in itself. This was an important counterculture political event to free activist John Sinclair from prison after a small pot bust, and a huge array of political activists turned out, along with ex-Beatle Lennon and even Stevie Wonder, who stole the show but is not mentioned on the poster. A classic in-the-authorities’-face design by poster artist Gary Grimshaw. Enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard of PosterCentral.com (phone 805-540-0020, email pete@postercentral.com).
